Music To Travel By: Of Monsters and Men

Of Monsters and Men has burst onto the music scene this year, and their album My Head Is An Animal was just released in the States late last month. The sextet from Iceland has been hailed as “the next Arcade Fire” with their anthemic sound, use of brass instruments and harmoniums, hand clapping and group vocal “la-la-ing.” Their most popular song  “Little Talks,” with its strong percussive beat and bright trumpet flourishes, immediately gets the head bopping. “Six Weeks” can best be described as romp-about music, with dramatic and upbeat instrumentals. The entire album, specifically “Lakehouse” and “From Finner,” leaves the listener breathless. The band asks, “Don’t listen to a word I say,” but we will be jamming to their tracks for a long time if they keep pumping out these energetic hits.
